We know we have enough riders interested. And routes & dates have been discussed at length. Lets get down to brass tax and begin nailing down the official route and date.
Preferably between Apr & May. Summer means we will have to share the roads with more vacationers and prices for travel and hotels go up considerably.
Since an off year ScooTour is more of a casual event I think we can just use an old route from a past year. The later on the calendar the further north the route. Such as April we could use the 2012 route or May we could use the 2010 route.
Judging from the discussion so far 2012's route is begging to be ridden again. We could perhaps swing north to avoid the Lufkin-Abilene route. It's my state, I'm sure I can get us a better texas route by going further north.
Routes suggested so far: 2012 Redux Lincoln Highway West/East Loops
Routes will determine dates since too far south rules out summer months.
Votes start...NOW
my vote ... Dates: April 13-21 Route: 2012 Redux (2648 miles over 9 days = 300 mile avg/day)

Of the three Cannonball routes I've ridden I think the 2008 was the most scenic, if you leave out the dirt sections.

Patrick confirmed we can get the route booklet in PDF. So 2008 redux is an option as well. How was the weather that run?

Just chiming in, since I discussed this on the boards a fair bit. I had hoped to do a reprise of the 2012 Cannonball in 2013, but finances are likely to dictate otherwise. I would LOVE to ride cross country, but I'm likely to be constrained to a NorthEast route, to minimize mileage with my very expensive support vehicle, unless I can arrange support with someone else.

Well its my hope that we can actually use this board to organize support a little better than the Cannonball. Perhaps 1 support vehicle for every 4-6 riders. That should help spread the cost across several riders.
If we can nail down a route and date then it gets easier to get a count on the riders that can share in expense. I have no problem throwing in.

How about Route 66 March 9-16? Avg High temperatures along the Eastern half of Route 66 in the month of March is in the 50's, with lows in the 30's. Too dang cold. Thats the tail end of winter in bread basket states.

I'll join you if it's a 2012 redo. Otherwise I'll do the 2012 anyway. Let's just say I've got some unfinished business with that route.

New rules for Cannonball 2014 have created the possibility of "The Gumball Run 2014 Starting in Virginia Beach and ending in LA similar to Cannonball 2004 (The first one) www.facebook.com/ScooterGumball for info.

Sorry Dewey but I can't track down the cause. I've tried special characters in user name and password and using different browsers but cant recreate the error message. I used Internet Explorer & Chrome. If youve used a differnt browser can you try IE or Chrome
